YORK, Maine — State police say a routine roadside safety check on the Maine Turnpike led to the discovery of more than $1 million in greenbacks.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says the episode unfolded with the discovery of a falsified driver's log during the routine truck inspection Friday. He says a subsequent inspection of the trailer revealed U.S. currency estimated to be in excess of $1 million.

McCausland says the driver, 35-year-old Jhon Rivera-Ramirez, was arrested for the logbook violation.

Troopers say the smuggling of bulk currency is a preferred method for criminals to move illicit proceeds across borders. It is a crime to cross the border with more than $10,000 in undeclared currency.

The early morning mist had still to clear as I crossed the moor



They're joining Airdrie and Bathgate with a new railway, the road is constantly being invaded with
roadworks to accomodate the rail works



After a quick stop in an industrial estate at Bellshill for breakfast at one of the many snack vans,
it was on to the M74 motorway for the drive south. Passed one of Thomas Youngs trucks
heading south also with a very long piece of rail track



Not everybody was moving though, this tanker was sitting on the northbound hard shoulder,
some smoke in the air suggested brake problems



Around Crawford and Elvanfoot the mist was still low on the groud





Time to leave the motorway behind as I come upto my exit to had southwest



After bypassing Dumfries and getting on to the westbound A75, I pulled over to take a photo
of my truck and it's load

A SCOTS lorry driver has been arrested in Romania over allegations he sexually abused young boys.

The trucker - named by cops there as James Connor, 33, of East Kilbride - was nicked during a search for a nine-year-old boy who was reported missing. The child was apparently found in his truck in Vaslui, along with another lad aged 13.
Police also claim they found a laptop with obscene images of children when he was arrested on Sunday.
It is alleged Connor spent four days luring kids into his lorry in the towns of Vaslui, Iasi and Brasov. He is accused of sexually abusing kids, filming the abuse and putting it onto his PC.
They also claim the alleged victims are from poor families and he gave them cash and food to get in his lorry. Cops said there could be as many as five alleged victims.
Connor appeared in court on Monday charged with sexual abuse of minors. He will be held for 29 days while cops investigate further. He faces 15 years in jail if convicted.The Foreign Office confirmed they are providing consular assistance.





Connor is reported to work for Ross International Haulage in Bellshill, Lanarkshire. A woman at the firm last night said: "We've only just heard about it."
A Strathclyde Police spokesman said they were not aware of the arrest.
