    Question Man truck

I,ve been driving class 2 vehicles for 25 years no problems. I finally decided to go in for my class 1 test. Today i went for an assesment in a Man truck class 1. I found the gearbox to be an absolute nightmare, horrible crunching with every change. The instructor told me all the class one vehicles have gearboxes like this now, because they are electronic and have no linkages so you have to take your time with the gearchanges. He says it takes on average 3 days just to learn the gearbox !
I,ve drove lots of different wagons over the years and never had a problem with the gearchanges. As you can understand i am reluctant to pay £1000 for this course until i know it is correct what this instructer says. can anybody confirm this ? Has anyone drove a Man truck and experienced this ?

We used to run 3 man tga's on my last job, the gear box was good and all the drivers liked it. Initially, there were some problems with drivers rushing the changes, but it doesn't take long to realise the speed of the gearbox change and adjust your movements to suit. The problems you describe seem a bit more serious.

Thanks for that info, does not sound like a good vehicle to learn in even if the gearbox was working as it should. Looks like i will be looking for another company to teach me.
Anybody reccomend a good training company in the Durham and Tyne and Wear area ?
